EU: Europe is the largest buyer of Russian liquefied gas (!!!)

The EU actually wants to break away from its dependence on Russia, but new figures show that LNG imports have risen to record levels. Liquid gas replaces part of the gas supplies that Europe received via pipelines from Russia until last year. Despite efforts to become independent of Russian energy supplies, the EU is importing more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia than ever before. Between January and July 2023, the EU countries together bought 22 million cubic meters of Russian LNG. This corresponds to an increase of 40 percent compared to the same period last year, when the EU imported 15 million cubic meters of LNG from Russia. The new figures come from a study by the NGO Global Witness, which specializes in the raw materials sector, which was published on Wednesday and is based on data from industry service provider Kpler. Global Witness calculates that Russia is generating revenue of more than five billion euros from this – money that could be used to continue the war of aggression against Ukraine.
