Transforming Saint-Joachim's cemetery into a source of solar energy

In the town of Saint-Joachim, France, an innovative community energy scheme is underway, turning the town cemetery into a source of solar energy. 🌞
Image of post in post detailed view

The project addresses multiple challenges: the cemetery frequently floods in winter, and the town experiences dry spells in summer. By covering the cemetery with solar panels, the town not only prevents flooding but it will also generates renewable energy for the people of Saint Joachim!
Residents can join the scheme for a minimal fee and will receive a share of the energy produced. What's unique is the equitable distribution of energy among participants, facilitated by a novel algorithm. This sustainable initiative encouraes community involvement and promotes energy self-sufficiency. A win win!
Despite initial scepticism about using a graveyard for such a purpose, the project showcases creative solutions to environmental and energy challenges. Fully financed by the municipality, the solar cemetery is expected to start providing clean electricity to residents by the summer of 2025, setting a positive example for similar ventures worldwide.

It's a positive and innovative initiative to repurpose a cemetery for generating solar energy. This kind of project can have both practical benefits, such as producing clean energy, and symbolic value in terms of honoring the memory of the deceased in a sustainable manner.
