Rainwater can easily be harvested at home

Some parts of The Netherlands are below sea level. That is why this country became very good at getting water out of the country as fast as possible.
But with climate change, this strategy is becoming counterproductive! Due to droughts, it is becoming more and more important to keep water in the country. This is possible for example by allowing rivers to meander instead of making them flow in a straight line. Also, reservoirs can be built.
We can even build reservoirs at home to capture rainwater! It's very simple: we can lead water flowing down the drainpipe into a container instead of letting it flow into the sewer.
If you already capture rainwater, how do you use the water? And if not, how would you use it if you had one?

Most African homes have always had to harvest rain water. Amazing idea

Absolutely, harnessing rainwater at home is a small yet impactful step in adapting to the changing dynamics of our environment. The Netherlands' historical expertise in water management takes on a new relevance with the challenges posed by climate change. As climate patterns shift, the traditional strategy of expelling water swiftly from low-lying areas becomes counterproductive. Retaining water within the country is now crucial, and simple initiatives like allowing rivers to meander and constructing reservoirs are part of this adaptive approach.

Moving from quickly draining water out to actively retaining it is a thoughtful response to increasing droughts.

Harvesting rainwater even before touching the ground is really ideal for it's less contaminated as well

Yes, it does. We did it in 300 poorer households and therefore we know it.

Water harvesting is a noble venture since this water can be used for domestic uses, irrigation and even in industries. This should be adopted by all and moreso be made reliable.

In Africa harvesting rainwater has been a common occurrence for most household especially in rural areas. Its is used for all household purposes including drinking and washing. This has however in the last decade been unreliable due to climate change which has seen areas have prolonged drought. Urban areas should also adopt this idea and harvest rainwater. Follow what people in the village are doing.
