Black Rock

Climate warning

Wall Street has flip-flopped on climate change.

Many of the world’s biggest financial firms spent the past several years burnishing their environmental images by pledging to invest “green”.

Now, Wall Street has flip-flopped.

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, scaled back its involvement in Climate Action 100+, (an international coalition of money managers that push big companies to take necessary actions on climate change), while the financial giants JP Morgan, State Street, and Pimco dropped out of the group recently under the pressure of politics and concerns legal risks

While companies say they are committed to combating climate change, the devil is in the details. When nature doesn’t have any market value, the original faces under the cosmetic reveal themselves.

The withdrawal of BlackRock, JP Morgan, State Street, and Pimco raises serious questions about their commitment to combating the climate crisis and fulfilling their environmental responsibilities. We must hold them accountable.

It's sad that profits of such multinational companies don't go down but they can afford to fail on what matters the most, our mother nature.

It is sad when major companies use environmental pledges to grow but later flip and desert climate action practices.

@joseph_githinji indeed.. they need to find the market value of climate change. But in other words if there’s no climate change, there’ll be no future disregard the market value. They need to think long term market values..

@joseph_githinji The stakes are too high when it comes to climate change & environmental sustainability, and it's important that companies remain accountable & committed to making meaningful changes for the planet's future.
