Shell will cut 200 jobs in clean energy division

Shell will cut 200 positions within its low-carbon solutions unit in 2024, a spokesperson confirmed to CNBC on Wednesday. The company’s low-carbon division helps spearhead Shell’s transition to clean energy including hydrogen, given its pledge to become a “net-zero emissions energy business” by 2050. The company will switch some of the jobs in question to other divisions within Shell’s over 90,000-employee workforce, and an additional 130 roles will be put “under review” throughout 2024, said the spokesperson.

Best way to stop using fossil fuels = stop needing them. Best way to stop needing them = replace them with something better. It’s gotta be nuclear! 💪🏼♥️⚛️🌎

If Shell wants to migrate to clean energy then it means that they need more employers than before, but with the downsizing thing then it means they are not fully committed to this.

Shell's job cuts in its clean energy division are disheartening, suggesting a backpedaling on environmental commitments when we need acceleration.

This is so heartbreaking, as the world moves towards a more sustainable future, it is important for companies to invest in and prioritize clean energy solutions. Hopefully, the affected employees will be able to find new opportunities within Shell or elsewhere in the growing clean energy sector.

Quite disappointing. I hope that Shell will listen to the concerns of its employees, investors, and the public and take steps to become a more sustainable company.

This is very disappointing 😞 and counterproductive, this move not only raises questions about the company's environmental responsibility but also its strategic vision for a future where clean energy will play a central role.

Their action and decision to downsize jobs sounds to be hypocritical because they didn't secure a grant from the $7 billion of federal funding and their reason to dig deep why their Louisiana hub was not funded speaks volumes.
