World Bank,IMF urged to boost funding to African countries to combat climate change

It comes amid criticism that the lending institutions are not taking climate change and the vulnerabilities of poor countries enough into account in their funding decisions. The global financial system “is now outdated, dysfunctional and unjust,” said a New York Times opinion column by Kenyan President William Ruto, African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, African Union Commission chairman Moussa Faki and Patrick Verkooijen, chief executive of the Global Commission on Adaptation. It’s outdated because international financial institutions “are too small and limited to fulfill their mandate. Dysfunctional because the system as a whole is too slow to respond to new challenges, such as climate change. And unjust because it discriminates against poor countries,” the leaders wrote. In recent years, climate funding to Africa has increased, with recognition that the continent is least responsible for emissions but most at risk from climate change because of a lack of financing and ability to cope. Major development banks have increasingly recognized climate change as an economic threat.https://apnews.com/article/africa-climate-finance-imf-world-bank-453b6fc341d8a80c15f4824468e61179?taid=6527bc1cddbbd60001a41075&utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter

I urge the World Bank and IMF to heed the call of the African leaders and to boost funding to African countries to combat climate change.

Its a great initiative for the World Bank and IMF to increase funding to African countries in order to effectively address the challenges posed by climate change. The current financial system needs to prioritize the needs of vulnerable nations and ensure a just and sustainable approach.

The funding should be with no strings attached and not as a means to control these countries policies in future

The world bank should lay out plan to help African countries fight climate change challenges.

Significant financial resources are needed in Africa to adapt to the adverse effects and reduce the impacts of a changing climate.

There are many start-ups in Africa that require funding.
