Kenya makes 13 November nationwide tree planting day a public holiday

The government of Kenya has gone a top notch higher in the roadmap to plant more trees in the nation by announcing Monday the 13TH of November a public holiday to be honoured by planting trees nationwide. This come as a way to encourage the people of Kenya to plant more trees and aid in hitting the presidential target of 15bn trees by 2032 as outlined by the President of Kenya Dr. Willi Ruto. The directive was given by the interior cabinet secretary, Prof. Kithure Kindiki via an official communication to his social media platforms. “The government has declared a special holiday on Monday 13 November 2023, during which the public across the country shall be expected to plant trees as a patriotic contribution to the national efforts to save our country from the devastating effects of climate change,” said Kindiki. Further the Kenya's authorities have set aside $80 in this financial year to help in increasing the forest cover in the nation from 7% to more than 10%. On her part the cabinet secretary for environment, climate change and forestry ministry has promised that the government will provide tree seedlings for some in the country to display commitment as a government. “It is a moment for Kenyans to stand in solidarity in the defence of our environment, it’s a ‘hummingbird’ contribution day, all of us pulling together to fight back the climate change crisis,” said the environment minister, Roselinda Soipan Tuya. Kenya's decision to declare November 13th a public holiday dedicated to nationwide tree planting is a remarkable step toward environmental conservation. It underscores the nation's commitment to achieving the ambitious target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. The allocation of funds and provision of tree seedlings demonstrate a strong governmental commitment to address climate change. Let's all participate in this 'hummingbird' effort to protect our environment. 🌳🇰🇪 #ClimateAction #TreePlantingD
