Uniper: No new nuclear power plants in Sweden

The German energy company Uniper does not want to build any new nuclear power plants in Sweden, reports Bloomberg. Sweden's government wants to build more nuclear power reactors. But it will be without Uniper SE's participation, according to CEO Michael Lewis. - We intend to keep the facilities we have, but we will not invest further in nuclear power, says Michael Lewis in Düsseldorf according to Bloomberg. There are three active nuclear power plants in Sweden and Uniper has shares in all three. Uniper is the majority shareholder in the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant and a minority shareholder in Ringhals and Forsmark. The company also owns Barsebäcksverket, which was closed and is now being demolished. Vattenfall and Finnish Fortum Oyj are investigating the possibilities of building small modular reactors and the Swedish government has expressed wishes for larger conventional plants. But Uniper's CEO says the company is not considering investing in any of these options, but is prioritizing gas and renewable electricity. https://www.nyteknik.se/energi/uniper-inga-nya-karnkraftverk-i-sverige/3928429

Uniper has made a U-turn away from fossil fuels investments towards massive investment into renewables. They deserve kudos!

I don’t know. Uniper is occupied with expanding fossil gas instead… Is that really worth celebrating? German energy politics is not a good example of climate leadership.

@Rentzhog The green Government minister Robert Habeck, as owner of Uniper, is speeding up the transformation away from fossil fuels towards renewables. Else Uniper would still be deep into old eco system.

That's great news, since it's wastes technically are non-renewable and it's malfunctions can be catastrophic ..That's the way to go.
