Germany: The Liberal party FDP, part of the Government, constantly blocks or delays transition to renewables

FDP wants to go back to nuclear power Energy The Liberals want to stop the dismantling of the nuclear power plants that are still working, thereby fueling new conflicts in the coalition. Green leader Ricarda Lang says the proposal is impractical. The chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Christian Dürr, questions the nuclear phase-out. He told the Süddeutsche Zeitung that the parliamentary group would discuss at its closed meeting in Dresden that "the dismantling of the nuclear power plants that are still functioning should be stopped." The draft resolution for the meeting of the 92 FDP MPs states that Germany needs power plants with base load capability. Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens) criticized the Liberal initiative. It was "the FDP's own responsibility and decision as to whether they would like to submit such a backward-looking motion to the German Bundestag," she said on Thursday on the sidelines of a summer trip lasting several days. Green leader Ricarda Lang said the proposal was impractical. "The chancellor has made a clear decision. We are now taking the path of renewable energies step by step, and that's a good thing." The Greens and the SPD parliamentary group are calling for a subsidized industrial electricity price to help energy-intensive companies that are in international competition. The Free Democrats, in turn, reject this. Instead, they propose reducing the electricity tax to the minimum required by the EU. Medium-sized companies would also benefit from this, not just a few large companies. https://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/energiepolitik-fdp-will-zurueck-zur-atomkraft-1.6181503

It's important for any political party, including the FDP, to carefully consider the economic, environmental, and safety implications of such a move.

The longer we delay the transition, the higher the cost of loss and damage will be to society, companies, individuals, and governments.
