President Ruto to Lead 7th Annual Kaptagat Tree Planting Campaign

President William Ruto will oversee a tree-planting event at Kessup Forest Block in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Saturday. This event marks the Seventh Edition of the Kaptagat Tree Growing initiative, which aims to expedite the achievement of a 30 percent tree cover. The campaign plans to grow over 32,000 seedlings during this tree-planting drive.
The government has set an ambitious target of planting 15 billion trees within the next ten years, with an estimated cost of Sh600 billion. This translates to an annual budget of approximately Sh60 billion. The campaign aims to encourage each Kenyan to plant an average of 30 trees per year over the next decade. The government hopes to raise the country's tree cover to 30 percent by 2032, a significant increase from the current 12.13 percent.
Notably, the forest cover has shown improvement, rising from 5.9 percent in 2018 to 8.83 percent in 2021. The national tree cover currently stands at 12.13 percent, exceeding the constitutional target of 10 percent. The government's efforts to combat deforestation and mitigate climate change through tree-planting initiatives continue to make progress.

I hope they and everybody else that plants trees, studies the latest science about trees and their effect on global warning. Some trees at some places seem to have the opposit effect while the right type of tree at the right places are very good.
