We were already worried about the organization of COP28, which will be held in Dubai in 2023. And guess what? We should now be even more worried... Apparently, appointing the CEO of the United Arab Emirates' main oil company as its president wasn't good enough. According to an investigation by the Centre for Climate Reporting, at least a dozen other employees of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company are now responsible for organizing the COP.
The oil company also managed to get several of its employees into the Emirati delegation. Two engineers from the ADNOC will act as negotiators on behalf of the UAE at the conference. Other senior oil company executives have also been "tasked with supporting" the UAE's role as host of this year's conference.
It seems that this COP won't be a success... What do you think can be done?

The involvement of major oil companies in organizing COP could either be a turning point for genuine climate action or a contentious issue, depending on the outcomes of the negotiations.

It's with no doubt that COP envisages irreverence and loss of direction. This is yet another blow with the initial one being the appointment of Al Jaber as the president of Cop28 which hasn't yet made sense to me until now. Let's not forget Coca-Cola sponsored Cop27 and it seemed just right.

This is a bit of a joke

Are they trying to explain with actions that they are ready to abandon their oil deals and join the fight for climate,or are they trying to mock the effort of climate ambassadors?

We need to ensure that COP28 is organized by people with an unbiased and impartial perspective on the climate crisis, not by those whose profits depend on the continuation of fossil fuel extraction.

It's worrying, something thing is wrong somewhere

They are clearly making fun of the event

Truly this more worrisome. There was faul play in the appointment of Al Jaber as Cop28 president and now in having employees of an oil company help in organizing the Cop.
