The Environmental Impact of Pulp Mill Operations on Northern Forests and Biodiversity: A Case Study of the Metsä Group's

Over 30 Greenpeace activists from 7 countries have taken a bold stand at Metsa Group's Kemi pulp mill. They've blocked the main gate, halted the train track, and closed the bridge to demand that Metsä Group align its operations with the bounds of nature.
Activist Ida Korhonen, in sharing their motivation, says, 'I'm here because I’m sad. Our nature is being turned into pulp. The forest's residents are vanishing, all for more cardboard and disposable products.' Metsä Group's new pulp mill is intensifying logging in the northernmost forests of Finland and Sweden. Excessive logging has already harmed Finland's environment and disrupted the forests' carbon absorption capacity. We need to reduce logging, not escalate it!

Pulp mills often contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, especially if they rely on fossil fuels for energy. These emissions can exacerbate climate change, affecting the entire ecosystem.
