Quercus & other Environmental groups take Portugal to court over climate inaction

Environmental groups have filed a legal action in a Lisbon court against Portugal over an alleged failure to put into practice its own regulation to tackle climate change.
Portugal approved in 2021 a set of regulatory policies and legal instruments to combat climate change, but little progress has been made to meet goals and deadlines.

Climate inaction from the government speaks so much of ignorance and must be condemned and dealt fully by the courts

The legal action filed by environmental groups against Portugal underscores the growing trend of holding governments accountable for climate action. Despite the approval of regulatory policies and legal instruments in 2021 to combat climate change, the alleged lack of progress in implementation has prompted this legal challenge. This case exemplifies the increasing use of legal avenues by environmental advocates to ensure governments fulfill their commitments and meet climate goals. It highlights the importance of tangible actions and timelines in the fight against climate change, emphasizing the need for accountability on a national level. #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalJustice #Portugal #ClimateInaction

If through legal action is when countries will take responsibility of climate then may it be so .... Even other countries that are dragging our climate behind also need to be served in court

It is commendable that Quercus and other environmental groups are taking legal action against Portugal for their lack of action on climate change. It is crucial that governments take responsibility and implement measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.
