Mobilizing Argentina's youth for collective climate action

Nicole Becker's story is not just one of determination and advocacy, but also of hope for a more sustainable future. As a law student, climate activist, and UNICEF Youth Advocate from Argentina, she believes that the climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to human rights and justice. Her organization, Jóvenes por el Clima (Youth for the Climate), helped organize Argentina's first mass climate strike in 2019, and she has been advocating for collective action ever since. "When I began to understand that the climate crisis had to do with the violation of basic human rights, such as the right to health, the right to drinking water, the right to housing, and even to life, that's when it clicked in my mind," said Nicole.
The urgency of the climate crisis is felt worldwide, and Argentina is no exception. The country has experienced extreme weather conditions and natural disasters, such as flooding and heat waves, and even record levels of glacier retreat.

Nicole's message is one of hope for a better future and a call to action for everyone to work together toward a sustainable world. "Do not forget that another world is possible. Another world that is more socially and environmentally just," she states.

@tabitha_kimani Totally. I think great efforts must be made to show the extensive consequences of climate change in the global south.

@tabitha_kimani And there are also more risks for people who mobilize in the global south.
