Ikea enters the seaweed company - will be the plastic of the future

The seaweed company Nordic Seafarm collects SEK 25 million from Ikea's subsidiary Inter Ikea Group and EU-funded Innoenergy. With the money, the seaweed will now also become biomaterial in addition to food.

"We see Ikea as a customer in the future," says Nordic Seafarms CEO Simon Hilmersson.

Great move towards sustainable materials, positioning seaweed as a viable alternative to plastics. This move will address environmental concerns and create new avenues for innovation in biomaterials, potentially reshaping industry standards.
