Nuclear energy can help societies reach their clean energy needs, without having to rely on fossil fuels and being reliant on Russia, which is engaged in a devastating war against Ukraine.
However, the need for societies to reach and maintain clean energy security remains a sticky policy issue. Nuclear energy is a viable but often underutilized climate solution to support countries to wean off of fossil fuels and make the crucial transition into clean energy.

Seth Grae joined the COP27 Climate Hub on November 15 to talk about the benefits of nuclear power.
During the UN climate conference COP27, Lightbridge Corporation (NASDAQ: LTBR) participated in the COP27 Climate Hub, an on-site and digital broadcast hosted by We Don’t Have Time from Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt. Seth Grae, CEO of Lightbridge, joined the broadcast live from Sharm El-Sheikh to talk about the benefits of nuclear power.
In the segment Achieving Energy Security While Meeting Climate Goals, Seth candidly talked about the importance of nuclear power and the energy security it brings, with Dr. Kathryn Huff, the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.
“It’s extremely important,” said Seth Grae. ”Nuclear power can provide reliable around-the-clock energy. It is never intermittent and doesn’t rely on fossil fuel coming from adversaries of the United States.”
The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the U.S. Department of Energy are not only vocally supportive of nuclear energy, they are also tangibly showing their support through nuclear-focused policies and assisting with nuclear energy implementation. As a result of this proactive support, investments into nuclear energy see reduced roadblocks and nuclear energy research is able to receive the funding and necessary oversight it deserves.
Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, Lightbridge Fuel will be studied in NuScale small modular reactors (SMRs) by researchers at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The clean energy leadership and independence that the U.S. is able to portray is owed to the significant budget of the U.S. Department of Energy, where they have been able to devote considerable resources towards nuclear energy research.
The swelling momentum of the clean energy revolution that is occurring now in the U.S. is not lost on the rest of the world. At COP27, this was made apparent with the landmark decision that emanated with the creation of a climate loss and damage fund.
“Talking about the developed countries helping the developing ones,” Seth said. "I think that SMRs, as you say, really can be a central part of that, that helps prevent further climate change with zero emission nuclear power."
While nuclear energy will play an increasingly important role in helping American industry and society maintain its energy needs, the world will also see that the U.S.’s commitment to nuclear energy will mean less American emissions contributing to the climate crisis.

Seth is spot-on when he says, "Nuclear power can provide reliable around-the-clock energy. It is never intermittent and doesn’t rely on fossil fuel coming from adversaries of the United States.” Great article!
