Colombia presents $40 Billion green transition plan, a model for moving the money away from fossil fuels

Colombia is making headlines with its bold $40 billion investment plan aimed at transitioning away from its reliance on fossil fuels. After ending new oil and gas exploration two years ago, the country is now looking to replace lost revenues with green solutions like clean energy, nature-based climate projects, and sustainable agriculture.
The initiative, announced by Colombia’s Environment Minister Susana Muhamad during New York Climate Week, is part of a larger movement towards a global energy transition. Colombia plans to mimic successful Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs), seen in countries like South Africa and Indonesia, where international funds are helping speed up the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. With up to $10 billion expected from international institutions, this plan highlights how developing nations can leverage global financial resources to fuel their climate ambitions.
This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking investment that the world needs to #movethemoney away from fossil fuels. By redirecting money from fossil fuels into green solutions, Colombia is paving the way for other countries facing similar challenges. With half of the country's exports currently tied to oil and coal, this transition is no small feat for the Latin American country. But Colombia has understood that this is about survival and creating new economic opportunities.

The investment portfolio will poised to drive economic transformation by developing sectors poised to replace oil revenues. It will fund nature-based climate solutions, clean energy projects, electrification of transport, and initiatives improving agricultural practices and biodiversity protection. I love it for them
