Chinchilla big battery connects to the grid near Australia’s biggest coal unit

The Chinchilla battery, a 100MW/200MWh project in Queensland, has successfully registered and connected to the grid. It is the inaugural battery developed by CS Energy and plays a significant role in the state's transition towards renewable energy and storage solutions. Comprising 80 Tesla Megapack modules, the Chinchilla battery is expected to commence operations in early 2024. Notably, other notable batteries in the region include the Western Downs battery by Neoen and the Ulinda Park battery by Akaysha Energy. Queensland has set ambitious targets of achieving 50% renewables by 2030 and 80% renewables by 2035.
