Weakened climate policies led to higher energy bills for UK citizens

Each month, British citizens are paying the price of the Tories' persistent eagerness to weaken climate policies.
A new analysis by Dr. Simon Evans for Carbon Brief has revealed that the UK's energy bills were £22 billion higher over the past decade than they would have been if successive Conservative governments had not scaled back climate policies.
These policies, derogatorily referred to as "green crap," included measures for home insulation, new building standards, and the expansion of onshore wind and solar energy. The accompanying chart illustrates how the lack of progress on various climate initiatives has contributed to increased UK energy bills from 2015 to 2024.
Additionally, the rollback of these green measures has led to a one-third increase in net gas imports, making the UK more dependent on imported gas and leaving consumers more vulnerable to high gas prices. Carbon Brief continues to monitor the positions of UK political parties on climate change and energy in the lead-up to the general election.

It's frustrating to see how weakened climate policies have directly impacted energy bills for UK citizens.
