Rio Tinto accused of causing pollution

A UK /Australia mining company Rio Tinto is facing a claim at English court brought by villagers in Madagascar who say pollution caused by the mining company has led to dangerous levels of lead and uranium contaminating waterways and lakes which they use for domestic purposes. Blood tests carried out on people of the communities shows that 58 people has elevated levels of lead and majority of cases exceed the threshold which WHO recommends. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/04/rio-tintos-madagascar-mine-may-face-lawsuit-over-pollution-claims

This is deeply concerning 😟. Pollution from mining activities can lead to serious health hazards and environmental degradation, affecting water sources and ecosystems vital for livelihoods.

Glad that the villagers could stand up for themselves and come against such impunity from Rio Tinto.

Thinking of those affected. Clean water is a basic human right! Hope the lawsuit is successful.
