While Pacific leaders have largely supported this bid, focusing on increased climate ambition and support for vulnerable nations, the contradiction between Australia's climate rhetoric and its fossil fuel expansion plans has raised serious concerns.
Vanuatu's climate envoy, Ralph Regenvanu, accused Australia of hypocrisy, stating that the country is "not acting in good faith" by promoting climate leadership while simultaneously approving new fossil fuel projects.
