They deforested 37,105 hectares of natural forest despite RGE's no-deforestation policy

Despite its pledges and its no-deforestation policy, Royal Golden Eagle, one of the world’s largest producers of wood pulp and products, is sourcing its wood from deforestation ⚠️

A new investigation found that RGE’s pulp and paper unit in China, Asia Symbol, received wood in 2021-2022 from 3 pulpwood suppliers in Kalimantan, Indonesia, that cut down 37,105 hectares of natural forest. Among these three companies, PT Industrial Forest Plantations (IFP) has alone cleared out 21,827 hectares of forest, most of it being identified as orangutan habitat, according to data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

This goes directly against RGE's pledges and sustainability policy, where RGE has committed to eliminating deforestation from its entire supply chain since 2015.
We Don't Have Time for pledges that companies do not follow. We need action. Now!

Why are so many people obsessed with profit over the life of humans, I,m sure the people doing this are well protected by the corrupt leaders, that we ourselves have elected, maybe it's a high time we need to take this matter seriously.

It's ridiculous to put profits before planet,RGE's licenses should be withdrawn ASAP since they've consciously violated the deforestation laws.

@joyce_waturu_nyakweya There are three issues here: 1- This isn't a law, it is an internal deforestation policy, which is technically not-binding; 2- It is RGE's supply chain that is deforesting, not them directly; and 3- the companies deforesting are doing it legally, in the concession that the government gave them, so there is nothing illegal per se

This is unacceptable, the pledges and promises made by companies and organisations must be kept.

Are they well aware of the pending disasters that can arise due to deforestation? hopefully they do hence the policy of no deforestation,so,why go against it for them to continue producing?
