Climate warning

For staying heavily reliant on fossil energy

Did you know that only 19% of Japan’s energy comes from renewable sources? This in a rich country with some of the world’s best potential for wind power, especially offshore. When including nuclear power, Japan's clean energy mix rises to about 24%. The rest is dirty. What’s even worse: Japan aims to continue deploying coal- and gas-fired power generation for decades to come. This came as an unpleasant surprise to me. But according to this article from Cipher News, Japan is really lagging in its efforts to decarbonize its economy which is the third-largest in the world. Japan has the highest share of coal generation for electrical power (33%) in the G7 along with the lowest share of wind power — 1%, compared to 11% on average for G7 countries, according to a recent Ember report. To make things even worse, Japan currently imports fossil fuels for 88% of its primary energy. Hey, Japan. You can do so much better than this. Time to get serious and step up your climate action.

The government of Japan should find ways of incorporating renewable energy and let go use of fossils in their country. Heavy reliance on fossils means destruction for a country

This is ridiculous! Why should they still be investing in fossil fuels when every continent is looking for sustainable green solutions???
