How Lego is trying to become a ‘green’ company

According to Plastics Europe, around 90% of all plastic is made from fossil fuels

19/11/2024 – Lego, the world’s largest toymaker, is stepping up its efforts to replace the fossil fuels used to make its colorful bricks with renewable and recycled plastics by 2032, after signing agreements with raw material suppliers to secure a long-term supply. But it’s paying a high price to achieve its goals.

The manufacturer, which sells billions of plastic bricks annually, has tested more than 600 different inputs to create a material that would completely replace its petroleum-based brick by 2030, but with limited success. Lego’s studded bricks are highly durable and resilient, but the Danish group’s founding family and CEO are committed to eliminating oil and other fossil fuels from their supply chain, despite the higher costs.
