I’ve never liked the term ”range anxiety”. For years, it has felt like a sloppy excuse to continue burning fossil fuels when buying a new car. With the new generation of EV’s, the term can once and for all be buried and forgotten.
The ET7, the new model from Chinese carmaker NIO, has a range of more than 1,000 km (621 miles).
To prove this, the company actually made a live-streamed demonstration, in which NIO’s founder and CEO Li covered 1,044 km (650 mi) in the ET7 with a 150 kWh battery pack. Thanks to the rapid development of so-called solid-state batteris, many more car manufactures will soon follow. Samsung has developed a solid-state battery with a 600 mile (965 km) range, which it will start to mass produce in 2027. And in California, QuantumScape has reached an agreement to license its solid-state battery technology to Volkswagen to develop for mass production.
So, for those of you still thinking of buying a fossil-fuel car in the next two-three years,
be mindful that such a car might only take you 700 km. It might cause ”range anxiety”.
