Pixel Planet Today's post

The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) just released their latest report on the state of our climate. We obviously can't share the entire report here, but we can definitely share some highlights. . 🌎 We have known of human-caused climate change for some time (the IPCC was formed some 40 years ago!), but it's more dire to fix now than ever. We've already seen a 1.1 degrees Celsius increase in global temperatures, and are on track to crossing multiple, irreversible climate thresholds well within our lifetimes. The infamous 1.5 degree threshold could even be crossed within the next decade. . 🌎 There are promising pieces to keep in mind though. Globally, climate finance has increased 60% within a decade, and 18 countries have completely decoupled economic growth from its emissions. Even big players are making moves: China is set to install more solar capacity this year than the US has in the last decade! . 🌎 The biggest thing to keep in mind? It's not too late. As a planet, we may be sailing right into a storm, but our rudder is far from broken. The crisis may seem insurmountable, but progress shows that if we continue accelerating as we have, we have a shot. A quote by Friederike Otto, one of the report authors, words it flawlessly, "We actually have all the knowledge we need... We just need to implement it." . . Read more about the IPCC report here:

Climate change is a planetary emergency. But it does not need to be our fate, writes Bronson Griscom.
