Germany: Direct Current (DC) factory goes into operation - saves 35% on electricity when combined with renewable energy

Germany: Direct Current (DC instead of AC)factory goes into operation - saves 35% on electricity when combined with renewable energy After 2.5 years of construction, the time has come: Schaltbau's new factory, the NExT Factory, will start full operation on September 1st in Velden near Landshut. The special thing about it: As the world's first Direct Current factory, the NExT Factory is a pioneering project for resource-saving and CO2-neutral production. Schaltbau's NExT Factory will start full operation on September 1st in Velden near Landshut. Climate friendliness begins on the roof of the NExT Factory, where a photovoltaic system generates around 1.6 MWh of energy per year. The electricity generated is fed directly into operations via a direct current network without being converted into alternating current, as is usual. This alone saves up to 15% of energy every year. In connection with intelligent energy management as well as battery and thermal storage, the energy costs of the NExT-Factory are reduced by 35% annually. In addition, the new production facility is fully electrified and produces CO2-neutrally. Photovoltaic energy without conversion loss: The direct current network of the NExT Factory, which won the Lean & Green Award, works like a kind of circular economy for energy. It connects the photovoltaic system on the roof, which produces direct current, with direct current consumers and storage systems within the production facility without conversion losses. If you extrapolate how many production, storage and logistics areas there are in Germany, the potential of direct current and direct current grids for the energy transition becomes clear. “In view of the high energy costs, is Germany facing de-industrialization? Is the energy transition progressing fast enough? Politics, business and society are concerned with these questions. But talking alone is of no use,” says Schaltbau CEO Dr. Jurgen Brandes. "With our NExT Factory, we wanted to set an example and show that cost-effective and climate-neutral production with direct current is possible and safe for people and machines. We are committed to economically efficient, green supply chains as well as to Germany as a production location.” DC products for industry, energy and mobility: As a pioneer of electrification, the company has stood for safety on the rails for generations. Based on this expertise, Schaltbau now develops and manufactures future-oriented direct current products for industry, energy and the mobility of tomorrow. Schaltbau's commitment to more sustainability is also reflected in the EcoVadis Sustainability Rating 2023, in which Schaltbau is among the top 4% of the companies in the industry assessed by EcoVadis. https://www.smart-production.de/etz/news-detailansicht/nsctrl/detail/News/schaltbau-erste-gleichstromfabrik-geht-in-den-betrieb?xing_share=news
