Meryem Belkihel's solo bicycle journey: touring Africa for gender equality and environmental protection

Meet Meryem Belkihel, a courageous woman who is taking on an extraordinary challenge: cycling solo around Africa to raise climate awareness. Known by her online alias, MeghyLost, she has captured the attention of thousands of followers on social media with her daring adventure. In January, she embarked on her journey from Casablanca, pedaling through Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry. 🚵‍♀️🌍
Her ultimate goal? To reach the southern tip of Africa and then make her way to Tanzania to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, all while spreading the urgent message of climate action.

Meryem is no stranger to pushing her limits and has undertaken several solo cycling trips, including exploring every corner of Morocco, including the High Atlas Mountains, which she conquered on foot. She even ventured into the desert with a nomad companion.
"Living in Casablanca, I discovered cycling as a means to navigate the congested city streets," she explains. "I enjoy spending time pedaling and discovering new places," she shares. "I love pushing my boundaries while contributing to a better world." It is this drive that propelled her to embark on her continent-wide tour, not only to explore the natural resources of the countries she traverses and engage with locals but also to raise awareness about the pressing need for eco-friendly transportation.
"By sharing my experience, I hope to inspire other women to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their dreams". As a Moroccan woman, she also aims to shed light on the stories of strong women she encounters along the way and prove that she can undertake this journey solo. She is determined to promote fundamental values such as environmental respect, gender equality, and cultural diversity while igniting conversations about the urgent need to protect the environment. A big climate love to Meryem Belkihel 💚
