Ericsson and TOMRA Partner for Sustainable Waste Solutions

Ericsson and TOMRA have embarked on a groundbreaking partnership aimed at revolutionizing waste management practices through enhanced connectivity and digitalization. This collaboration underscores their shared commitment to sustainability by optimizing waste streams and minimizing environmental impact.
TOMRA, renowned for its innovative reverse vending machines (RVMs), plays a crucial role in the circular economy by collecting and sorting used beverage containers. These containers are recycled back into new bottles and cans, effectively closing the loop on material use. Ericsson's Connected Recycling (ECR) platform complements TOMRA's efforts with its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) capabilities, enabling the traceability and trading of waste materials into new products.
At the upcoming HPE Discover event in Las Vegas, Ericsson and TOMRA will showcase their integrated solutions to demonstrate how advanced technologies can transform the waste industry. This initiative aims to shift perceptions of waste from a disposal burden to a valuable resource within enterprise ecosystems, thereby supporting circularity and reducing reliance on traditional waste management methods.
Marius Fraurud, Head of TOMRA Collection, emphasizes the importance of data-driven recycling solutions in driving circularity: "Our collaboration with Ericsson Connected Recycling showcases how precise data from RVMs can ensure complete traceability of materials, from waste collection to new product creation. Together, we aim to set new industry standards and promote sustainable practices."
Sophia Fahlen, Head of Ericsson Connected Recycling, highlights the transformative potential of the partnership: "As leaders in connectivity and recycling technologies, Ericsson and TOMRA are poised to revolutionize waste management. This collaboration underscores our commitment to leveraging digital innovation for environmental stewardship and a sustainable future."
In conclusion, Ericsson and TOMRA's alliance represents a significant step forward in advancing circular solutions for waste materials. By integrating connectivity with advanced recycling technologies, they aim to redefine how waste is managed globally, driving economic and environmental benefits while paving the way for a more sustainable society.
