Plant-material for biofuel can be grown in the lab

Plant-based alternatives to fossil fuels have many advantages, but also have disadvantages. For example, deforestation has caused CO2 levels in the atmosphere to rise and species to become endangered.

Also, the supply chain when using plants for biofuels contains many inefficiencies, such as only 2-33% being used for the main purpose.

One of the possible solutions is growing microalgae to produce biofuels, which has several advantages, such as being able to grow all year, leaving out unwanted parts of the plants, and being able to modify and control the properties of the plant materials.

Additionally, it is possible to grow plant materials in the lab using gel-mediated cell culture, which provides nutrients and allows the cells to grow in three dimensions.
