Finance COP 29 begins at Baku with burning issues on 11_11_2024

COP 29 has started in Baku. The tone of this Conference of Parties (COP) which has been identified as Finance COP, has been set by the outgoing presidency, incoming presidency and the UNFCC Executive Secretary by stating that climate plans need to be realized in to action through adequate and appropriate financing. In other words, climate plans now need financing for taking climate action to curb the rise of global average temperature rise below 1.5 degree C (Centigrade). At present, the world is moving in a growth trajectory, where average global temperature rise of three degree C is likely to take place and if anything is not done now it may shoot to five degree C rise causing chain reactions of catastrophe.

Sultan Al Jaber, President, COP 28 at UAE - Outgoing Presidency, while communicating gratitude to all concerned also clarified the stand of UAE is to opt for partnership over polarization and peace over provocation. As part of stock taking of action, it is reported that fifty-five (55) companies joined in decarbonaization of oil and gas sector and zero methane emissions before 2050. US$ 6.5 billion capital is invested in mature market, US$ 852 million is pledged for Loss & Damage fund. He believes declaration on paper can be turned into decisive actions. He has called to work on solidarity and collaboration to deliver meaningful results. UAE Minister calls for "UAD" ( Let us Unite Act and Deliver).

New Presidency has called for sincerity, frankness and new friendships to avoid the “road to ruin” i.e. of confusion and inaction. He aspired for building trust for climate action. He reminded that Article 6 is long overdue. People are suffering in shadows and are praying for climate leadership. It is the time to strike climate ambitions right and balanced packages shall enable actions. He assured that MCQG. strengthening of adaptation plan, age and gender based thematic plans shall be emphasized in COP at Baku.

Simon Stiell, UNFCC Executive Secretary is keeping faith in human ingenuity and determination. He is pained and is frustrated because the COPs are not delivering full transformation, but he is still embracing positivity since the millions of citizens across the globe are showing commendable resilience till now. They are being repeatedly knocked down by runaway climate reactions yet are getting up again. This resilience of commoners like his 85 years old islander-neighbor Florence needs to be respected and responded. Financing for climate action is not just a charity but is funding our own survival mechanisms. New Global Climate Finance Goals are to be unanimously agreed, otherwise brutal price shall have to be payed by all. Global climate finance is to be reformed in finance COP29, and the carbon market is to be re-worked. Transparency and Biannual update Reports is needed because decisions cannot be made in the dark. Clean energy and infrastructure demands are now of trillion dollars. Strengthening adaptation measures, building transparency, updating NDCs, global cooperation to move forward together.

Financing for transformation involves complex prioritizations. People are waiting. Leaders and decision makers are at Baku to take the call.

    Financial facts should never prevail over human rights of living a healthy and peaceful life all together on this planet and unfortunately the power of providing such a right which should be neutral and free of any national or international political systems is not yet given to any organisation having the ability and authority to operate beyond all existing international institutions to save the lives of millions of people all around the world from starvation very soon if we consider the scientific results concerning this impossible to turn back climate change effecting each of us. If and only if such a new executive body is installed by all nations directly, which should be able to help the population of the whole world by providing each country with the necessary resources to meet their needs to survive, day by day, according to the size of the calamities they face and their type, this earth which is still able to give and maintain life for the coming generations of human beings, would remain in doing so, to implement all these present and future tasks such an organisation should be provided with financial resources coming from each country according to their respective financial capacities, and never according to the severity of the natural situation of that year or moment in the future, there must be a controlled and continuous flow of financial resources reaching this organisation otherwise our life on earth will be ending very soon. As life on any other planet in our solar system or beyond is no more than a big nonsense only thought of to get the wealth of the wealthiest people away to provide them with a new burial site away from their home country, we have only One Option, to concentrate every effort to maintain life on earth on an acceptable level and to provide all living with clean air, clean water and a shelter protecting him/her from all natural disasters which will come even heavier in a short time as predicted. God bless this world, His Own Creation, the only place in this endless universe where we should be living peacefully all together, loving and caring for each other even more, in the presence of all the dangers effecting each of us.
