Climate love

Highlighting the need for local climate data.

The First Street Foundation have already demonstrated the value of understanding climate risk with their first Flood Risk tool, and have now developed a Fire Risk tool to do the same. These tools are effective for long-term planning purposes as well as near-term strategies in order to develop resource adaptations and manage emergency response... saving ecology and lives. Computer modeling and satellite data both have blind spots and require in-situ observations in order to calibrate and validate data sets in order to effectively mitigate risk, and as much in-situ local area data are needed as possible to do this. Until that future exists, understanding the localized risks faced by people is a key requirement and both of these tools provide an excellent viewpoint. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/05/16/climate/wildfire-risk-map-properties.html
