Clean energy an expensive affair for most Kenyans

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) approved new tariffs Kenya Power sought leading to the increase in electricity token prices since April 1. The authority said the tariffs would not be reviewed until 2026. At the opening ceremony of the Africa Energy Forum, President William Ruto announced that Kenya is launching an energy transition programme where all public institutions will shift away from biomass cooking fuels to cleaner and sustainable options. Eventually, all Kenyan households will follow suit. The President, during the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue in March 2023, announced that Kenya would be fully powered by renewable energy by 2030.https://nation.africa/kenya/health/how-clean-energy-drive-will-affect-your-finances-4290278

To achieve greatness we must leave our comfort zone and be miles ahead to do good. Kenyan government should ensure there is easy access to clean energy and that it is affordable.

Considering the high dependency rate of fossil fuels, the use of clean and renewable energy have to be made affordable for easier transition.

We need to democratise green energy! Otherwise, we are doing the renewable energy transition wrong!

Balancing the need for clean energy with affordability for citizens will be crucial in achieving the country's ambitious renewable energy goals by 2030.

The push for clean energy in Kenya is a positive step towards a more sustainable future. However, the current increase in electricity token prices makes it difficult for most Kenyans to afford this transition. It is important for the government to find ways to make clean energy more affordable and accessible to all citizens.

In my opinion I think the energy regulation should be responsible for this coz it's the entity that determine prices, but Ruto I think he is doing a commendable job in ensuring that there is transition to clean energy.

Its very wrong for the Kenyan government to encourage clean energy transition while being very adamant in lowering its cost
