Delhi is hitting 49 degrees this May, red alert issued!

How does it feel to experience heat at 45 degrees and over? Yesterday, I was talking to my family in Delhi, India and found out that the temperature hit 47 degrees and is gradually climbing higher! A red alert has been issued for Delhi and the surrounding areas like Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad.
No end to this, no respite in sight.
No end to this, no respite in sight.

An area of Delhi called Mungeshpur recorded 49 degrees on the 15th of May, 2024. According to a Meteorological officer, "As per Delhi’s climatology, the peak temperature is recorded during this time of the year," said an official.
The dogs on the streets were seen to climb into dirty, open drains to get some respite from the cruel heat. Are these livable conditions for any living being, be it human or animals? With the consistent cutting down of trees to build roads and buildings, these poor animals living on the streets don't even have shade to take protection from the sun. While human beings are the only ones increasing carbon emissions, animals and humans both continue to suffer.

This is a clear illustration of the kind of future that we are likely to have if we do not deal with the issue of climate change.
