A strategy to decrease methane emissions.

China unveiled an action plan aimed at reducing methane emissions, promising more robust measures to enhance its ability to manage greenhouse gas emissions in anticipation of the COP28 climate conference later this month.
China intends to "effectively enhance" its monitoring and supervision systems for methane emissions during the five-year plan period leading up to 2025 and plans to make "significant improvements" during the subsequent five-year period from 2026 to 2030, as detailed in the strategy released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. Additionally, China's conventional onshore oil and gas industry will "endeavor" to eliminate flaring entirely by 2030.
The country aims to achieve an annual utilization of coal mine gas amounting to 6 billion cubic meters by 2025 and intends to achieve collection rates of associated gases in oilfields that are at an "internationally advanced level" by 2030.
China's approach to mitigating methane emissions has played a crucial role in its negotiations with the United States to establish common ground in preparation for the COP28 climate summit, scheduled for late November.

China's action plan to reduce methane emissions is a positive step towards climate responsibility. The commitment to enhance monitoring and supervision systems, eliminate flaring in the oil and gas industry, and improve utilization of coal mine gas reflects a strong commitment to addressing climate change. This initiative also paves the way for constructive discussions at the upcoming COP28 climate conference. #ClimateAction #MethaneReduction

@elizbeth_gathigia you must be confusing China for Western democracies where we talk the good talk then greenwash our emissions endlessly. China’s five year plans get realised generally speaking. one problem is that their 2030-50 planning includes a MASSIVE expansion of oil and gas by unconventional methods (fracking). fracking is major source of methane emissions growth in the USA and to a lesser extent Australia and African nations. EU had banned it but the USA-Russia proxy war in the Ukraine has changed all that and oil and gas companies are rushing to get new exploration licences up and running in many EU countries now.
