COURT SUSPENDS PRESIDENT RUTO'S DECISION TO LIFT 2018 LOGGING BAN

The High Court has issued restraining orders to bar President William Ruto decision of lifting logging ban in Kenya. The head of state ordered the lifting of the ban that was imposed in 2018 in the month of July. President cited a big challenge of people depending on logging industry to make ends meet. However his decision was challenged in court by Law Society of Kenya (LSK) highlighting there was no public participation while making the decision. "Orders are granted staying the government directive on the revocation of the Gazette notices previously issued for degazettement of forest areas/designating areas as forests and the re-introduction of the shamba System," the order issued by Justice Oscar Angote reads. Furthermore the court court also stopped the state from granting such licences and permits to cut down trees. As the case awaits next hearing is on August 14, 2023 I support the court's decision and believe we must protect our forests by all means. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DtjZajym6Ji8&ved=2ahUKEwjypfT5kcGAAxXSWaQEHSggARQQwqsBegQIExAG&usg=AOvVaw0IiW5RSfapuP42bN_OPRoI

Richer countries need to support the poorer ones to stop the need for deforestation. If you’re starving you will do anything, the end of the world is already at your door.

That's very good, the few days the ban was lifted it has caused irreversible damage to the forests and environment.

@rosebellendiritu Yeah totally disappointed by how the citizens sought to destroy out forests.

It's unbelievable how much tree cover would have been lost owing to Ruto's uninformed decision.
