Billions of snow crabs in Alaska likely vanished due to warm ocean, study says

Marine heatwaves alter the ocean carbon cycle by reducing the density of CO2 flows between the air and the sea, particularly during extreme weather events such as El Niño. The so-called “blue carbon” ecosystems, which capture large quantities of CO2, are also affected.

The disruption of the ocean carbon cycle is a sight sight to watch. Marine lives need to be taken care of just as human

@peter_kamau If the crabs are this affected by warm ocean, imagine how other oceanic life is affected.

The disappearance of billions of snow crabs in Alaska is linked to the impact of warm ocean temperatures. Marine heatwaves disrupt the ocean carbon cycle, reducing CO2 exchange between the air and sea, especially during extreme events like El Niño. This not only affects snow crab populations but also "blue carbon" ecosystems, which play a vital role in capturing CO2. This highlights how climate change-induced ocean warming has far-reaching consequences on marine life and carbon balance
