Midsummer plans to build Europe's largest factory for thin-film solar cells in Sweden

In order to meet a sharply increasing interest in solar cells, the Swedish company Midsummer needs to scale up the production of its discreet solar cells, and 2023 is going to be a decisive year for them. Midsummer plans to build a mega factory for solar cells in Sweden that would become Europe's largest.
Right now their goal is to decide shortly where their super factory will be located. Possible locations are Uppsala, Katrineholm, Arboga and Järfälla, where the company currently has its small-scale production.
- We have been working for several months to find the best location for where to build our first mega-factory. We started with around 30 places around Sweden. And now 3-4 final candidates remain, says Sven Lindström, CEO of Midsummer to the Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri.

The goal for Midsummer is that production will start already in the second quarter of this year. The production capacity is stated to be 20 MW per year with the aim set to increase tenfold by 2024, to 200 MW.
- In that case, it will be Europe's largest factory for thin-film solar cells. In order to meet the enormous and concrete interest in our solar cells, it is now that we must scale up production and seriously begin the journey to become not only Sweden's but also one of Europe's largest manufacturers of solar cells, says Sven Lindström to Dagens Industri.
