In 2017, Henkel became the first major global consumer goods company to work with the social enterprise Plastic Bank. They are addressing both environmental and social challenges to reduce plastic waste. This partnership initiative of Henkel tackles the plastic problem and poverty as people living in coastal areas collect the plastic (stopping it from entering oceans) and trade it for money at the Plastic Bank. This initiative also makes it possible for Henkel to achieve its environmental targets like:
1. Make all packaging recyclable or reusable.
2. Reducing its reliance on plastic-based plastic by half.
3. Achieving zero waste in nature.
