5 TONS OF WOOD ARE BURNT TO DRY 1 TON OF TEA - SOLAR HEAT CAN STOP DEFORESTATION

The insight into how the tea industry causes drought, deforestation and carbon dioxide emissions would make many put their soothing sip of tea down their throats. Absolicon has in collaboration with WWF commissioned the world's first installation with concentrating solar collectors and heating layer to dry tea. The project continues in the form of Industrial Cleantech Platform that is now run by the UN agency UNIDO. The solar collector field of 180 kW is built to demonstrate how you can dry tea with solar heat. The installation has an energy storage of just over 1 MWh that can store excess heat from day to night. The project has been financed by Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) and operated together with WWF (World Wide Fund for nature) in Kenya and Tealand Engineering & Construction Ltd.
