To provide insights into digital refreshing – the disposal, replacement, or upgrading of home appliances, Tim Langdon, publisher of Eco Voice, had the pleasure of facilitating a Q & A with Jeremy Senior, VP Consumer Electronics, Samsung Australia.
The Rise of Digital Refreshing
While the concept of a “digital detox” has gained traction, new data from Samsung reveals that Australians are embracing a different trend: “digital refreshing”. With over half of Aussies (52%) (1) planning to spring clean their homes this year, digital refreshing – the disposal, replacement, or upgrading of home appliances and devices – is taking center stage.
Q1. What is “digital refreshing”, in your view, Jeremy?
‘Digital refreshing’ goes beyond simply replacing old tech. It’s energy efficiency, and that aligns with our evolving lifestyles. It’s also about making conscious purchase decisions which can benefit you and your household long-term, such as working to help reduce your energy bills, or even tackling domestic issues like food wastage.

This is a very healthy trend. In Sweden every individual has an average of almost 3 phones at home, so cleaning out and repurposing, recycling, or replacing what is not used can save a lot of materials at scale.
