The SMEs (Small, medium enterprises) play key role in entire production lines. Using renewables and improving energy efficiencies in SMEs can have profound positive impact in GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission mitigation scenario. Upfront investment for energy transfer, waste recycling, finding out suitable technologies are considered as difficult tasks by the SMEs. Providing support for obtaining finance and suitable technology can always help in breaking technological, financial or economical barriers for SMEs.
The initiative of SME Climate Hub is, therefore, a very promising initiative. The zeal with which We Don't have time is fighting for the cause, it is expected that many SMEs shall find out opportunities for technological innovations and turn arounds.
SME Climate Hub is an initiative of " We mean business coalition", which is again a collaborative outcome of seven non profit organizations: BSR, CDP, Ceres, Climate Group, CLG Europe, The B Team and WBCSD.
CDP is working on ensuring transparency in climate actions reporting. The Climate Group is a NGO which acts as secretariat to "Under 2 Coalition", which advocates for keeping global temperature rise within 1.5 degrees Centigrade. Under 2 Coalition is a vast network of states and regions for climate action.
It seems that if all these agencies play their roles efficiently, then SMEs shall be able to opt for smooth energy transition.
SME hub can also inspire the SMEs for having right kind of purpose with profit making for plant (industry) and planet. Aspiring for profit with purpose can be a justifiable point for taking the leap.
Success of SME Climate Hub can be replicated in other parts of the world. Let us pray and keep our finger crossed.
