Give Britons the right to plant to green up public spaces, Gove adviser says

A right to plant and grow trees and other greenery in public spaces should be given to people across Britain, an adviser to Michael Gove has said. Nicholas Boys Smith, who heads the Office for Place in Gove’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), also chairs the thinktank Create Streets, which has released a report calling for more greening of cities. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/26/give-britons-right-plant-green-public-spaces-gove-thinktank

Empowering citizens to plant and nurture greenery in public spaces is a fantastic step towards combatting climate change and enhancing urban environments. It not only contributes to the fight against environmental degradation but also fosters a sense of community ownership and responsibility. Initiatives like this align with the broader goal of creating greener, more sustainable cities, which are essential in mitigating the impacts of climate change and improving overall quality of life.
