For developing a Digital Fuel Insight software that will aid airlines to reduce their carbon footprint significantly.

Last November, a long-haul flight from London to Abu Dhabi operated by Etihad Airways notched an important aviation industry milestone by reducing the trip’s carbon emissions by 72% compared with an equivalent flight in 2019, using existing technologies. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was powered by GE’s GEnx jet engines and used a fuel blend containing sustainable jet fuel, a contrail mitigation system, a cleaning system that helps make jet engines run more efficiently and also GE Digital’s Fuel Insight software. The software, developed by GE Digital’s Aviation Software unit, can help airlines reduce costs and emissions by analyzing flight data, examining trends and identifying fuel savings in just minutes. It can be used on a single flight or scaled to the airline-wide level. https://www.ge.com/news/reports/flying-by-numbers-ge-digital-software-will-help-japans-ana-meet-sustainability-goals

I am glad to see that flights are on their way toward decarbonization (or at least reduction of their carbon footprint)

There is no such thing as "sustainable jet fuel"! This is greenwashing - there ought to be a law against it, the same as other forms of false advertising. The penalties should be harsher. It's not only hurting people's pockets but the planet's habitability

Reducing emission with 72% is not Green washing. It is exactly the Action We need.

@Rentzhog if it's real, that would be great, but the words "sustainable" and "jet fuel" are mutually exclusive. There is no Venn diagram in which they overlap

@BeeVee it's not a coding exercise to optimise the algorithm of the lean burn of the engines. They are still getting through tonnes of jet fuel, which has to be extracted, processed and refined

This is great action. It shows that digitalization is a true enabler to all sectors.

This, combined with electrofuel i wrote about earlier this week, less flying and more research about how to avoid high altitude carbon emissions might help us alot!
