For empowering vulnerable communities in global carbon market system

The UN Body responsible for establishing a new global carbon market has taken an important step reinforcing the protection of environmental and social human rights. The new safeguards allow people affected by activities under the mechanism to appeal decisions or file a grievance. This is a step towards developing a new international carbon market that sets the benchmark for high integrity carbon credits. "This is a defining moment," said Maria AlJishi, Chair of the Supervisory Body, in a press statement. "With the introduction of the Appeals and Grievances Procedure, we're establishing new avenues to empower vulnerable communities and individuals, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld." The Appeals and Grievances Procedure comes into effect immediately. For more info, read the Supervisory Body’s meeting report

I see the introduction of the Appeals and Grievances Procedure as a way of empowering vulnerable communities by giving them a voice in the global carbon market system. It will ensure their rights are upheld, fostering accountability and equity in environmental decision-making processes. Great decision

@george_kariuki Vulnerable people deserve the right to be heard and to be taken seriously, to have their share of climate finance as well.

@princess_nel_268 Indeed it is, often times these communities are overlooked by policy makers and their opinions or issues are not taken into consideration. That is likely to change after this
