I have actively lobbying at COP28 through Linkedin for a sustainable resolution at the climate conference in Dubai.
My latest input towards COP28:
“Primum non nocere” is a Latin phrase that means "first, do no harm". This principle is often taught in healthcare and bioethics, reminding practitioners to consider the possible harm that any intervention might do.
In the context of the Paris Agreement, this principle could be interpreted as the need for countries to ensure that their actions to address climate change do not cause harm. The Paris Agreement recognizes the need for an effective and progressive response to the urgent threat of climate change, based on the best available scientific knowledge. It also acknowledges that countries may be affected not only by climate change but also by the impacts of the measures taken in response to it.
Therefore, under the Paris Agreement, the principle of “Primum non nocere” could be seen as a call for countries to carefully consider the potential impacts of their climate actions, ensuring they do not cause more harm than good. This aligns with the broader goals of the agreement, which include promoting sustainable development, eradicating poverty, and ensuring equitable access to the benefits of climate action.
