COP29 November 13 — Making Films to Protect Our Planet
tve creates and enables others to create powerful, effective communications about the environment and development. Through film, animation, documentaries, debates and social media, tve seeks to inspire change.
During COP29, our we will make the series Children of Rio and Decade of Destruction available on-demand at our COP29 Hub. Meet the filmmakers and producers behind the two series in a conversation on how storytelling through film can impact positive change.
The Children of Rio: In 1992, as world leaders committed to a greener future at the Rio Earth Summit, tve began documenting the lives of 11 babies born in 10 countries. Over 20 years, tve returned to capture how globalization and development affected their lives, communities, and futures. These films, supported by UNFPA, reveal the hopes and challenges of growing up in a rapidly changing world.
The Decade of Destruction: This powerful documentary series by Adrian Cowell, aired on PBS's "Frontline," captures the dramatic destruction of the Amazon rainforest in the 1980s. Filming began in 1980 as the rainforest was opened to settlers and developers, documenting the devastation and struggle to control fires by the late 1990s. Each episode tells personal stories of survival and resilience, highlighting the broader environmental crisis facing Amazonia during its most destructive decade.
