Climate warning

Are we really vilifying the oil and gas industry in the name of climate change?

What does Elon Musk mean when he said, “I don’t think we should vilify the oil and gas industry.” The word itself could mean either of two things: besmirch or defame. It is not clear which meaning he is aiming at, but either meaning seems worrisome.

Speaking about climate change during his two-hour conversation with former president Donald Trump recently, he brought up this word about four times in the 10 minutes they spoke about climate. Not even getting into Trump’s perspective about climate change, Elon Musk’s open denial about climate change is concerning. It is when powerful voices that can make a difference are in climate change denial that we really need to start worrying. There have been news reports, articles and videos proving how heatwaves and fossil fuels are interconnected. Abject denial of it at this stage seems absolutely strange at a time when Big Oil has already been exposed for its inputs about spreading disinformation on climate change.
