Climate warning

For passing a resolution to ban state fund managers from considering ESG when managing state funds.

Florida Governor Ron Desantis passed a resolution this Tuesday to ban state fund managers from considering environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) when managing state funds and making investments for retirees. Several other states have also taken action against ESG, including West Virginia. State Treasurer Riley Moore banned U.S. Bancorp, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, and BlackRock from conducting business in the state following alleged boycotts of the fossil fuel industries from these financial firms. Kentucky passed a bill in April which authorized the state treasurer to identify financial firms which boycotted the fossil fuel industry and bar them from doing business in the state. I (naively) thought that elected representatives were supposed to represent the common good and make our lives better. Well... Ron DeSantis proved me wrong one more time. We really don't have time for this kind of leader!!! Read more: https://dailycaller.com/2022/08/23/desantis-bars-florida-fund-managers-using-esg-state-pension-investments/

Florida has such precious ecosystems and the whole state gets money off of tourism whether it be to the beaches, lakes, swamps, - you name it. I feel like this policy is just gonna backfire big time. Miami is already going underwater, and now Desantis does this? As a native Floridian myself, this is just ridiculous to see

The world over politicians show fealty not to their oaths of office but to the corporations that support their election campaigns. Very disappointing result of the intersection of democracy and capitalism
