Plastic-bottle seats, seashell paths, wooden pool to grace green Paris Olympics

One of the standout new structures is the €175 million aquatics center near the Stade de France. Built with sustainability in mind, it has France’s largest urban solar-energy farm and an innovative roof design. Inside, wooden beams make it feel light and open. After the Games, the facility will become a community sports center.
Organizers have installed 11,000 seats made from recycled plastic at two locations. A company called Le Pave, based near central Paris, has transformed 100 tons of recycled plastic into seats for the Adidas Arena and the aquatics center.

I'm glad to see the environment take a centre-stage at the Paris Olympics. It goes a long way to send a message on what needs to be done to protect the planet. This civic education will be important to many who have no idea about climate change and environmental destruction

It is most important that we stop making plastic containers, so that there is no need to find an end use for them. Also what is the lifetime of these structures? Do they deteriorate over time?

@paul_bruce I think for as long as the demand for these plastics exists, the supply wil always answer to this. Also, to find other alternatives, the market would have to provide a cheaper alternative because let's face it, most daily decisions are based on money and what's cheaper than what.

Impressive hope this will continue even after the Olympics

@jane_kamau_670 Indeed, it is a nice gesture but as you said, it only makes a huge impact if it continues even after the games. This can encourage other countries hosting such events to adopt the same strategies to beat their own plastic problems

I love how they've been able to put sustainability of the environment in mind for the coming Olympics

When major events like the Olympics are organized with sustainability in the mind, it testifies that, the environment is winning the war against pollution.

@sarah_chabane_874 I wish they could, as it will demonstrate their commitment to environmental consciousness.
